Frequently Asked Questions

Why a shared leadership model?

Great Commission Church has a shared leadership model as displayed in the New Testament. (Acts 20:17; 1 Peter 5:1-2) God has gifted the pastors at GCC in different ways and placed them in specific roles according to their strengths. These men seek to prayerfully shepherd the flock at GCC with an attitude of humility, solely relying on the Lord for strength and direction.

Why do we use the NIV version of the Bible within the service?

The New International Version of the Bible is one of many trusted translations that communicate the word of God in today’s English. At Great Commission Church we use this version of the Bible because many people find it easy to understand. We at Great Commission Church are committed to removing any obstacle to personal understanding of God’s Holy word and we feel that the NIV Bible is an appropriate translation.

Why do we refer to ourselves as non-traditional?

At Great Commission Church we want to remove all obstacles that stand in the way of unbelievers coming to know Christ in a real way. There are many in our society who seeks to frame the church in a very rigid, traditional box. We seek to side-step the box created by man—if it prevents sinners from hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is why during a Sunday worship service at Great Commission Church you may see people wearing jeans and a shirt without a tie or observe a worship service focused on exalting Christ rather than fulfilling the traditions from long ago. Please do not misunderstand–not all traditions are wrong but if they prevent anyone from knowing the Savior we will not include it in our service.

How can someone join the church?

Each week at the end of the worship service, visitors who desire to become a part of our local body are instructed to remain in the sanctuary to discuss the actual details concerning the new member’s process.

What kind of church is this? What denomination?

We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. We are an independently governed Baptist church that chooses to affiliate with SBC in order to do together what we could not do alone.

How do I meet with the pastor?

Most people who come to Great Commission Church find it comforting to see how approachable the pastors are. Therefore you can approach any of our pastors to set up an appointment or you can always call the church office to schedule a meeting.

Do you make visitors stand up?

No. We know how uncomfortable it can be to have to stand up and speak publicly in front of people. Therefore we do not try to isolate our visitors; however please do not be alarmed when someone greets you with a Godly hug versus a simple smile.

How long is the service?

A normal worship service can last about 1 and half hours, however, we will not limit God’s agenda for our own.

What type of music do you play?

We desire to be an effective tool / catalyst for creating an atmosphere where those we serve can have a sense of freedom to participate in collective praise and worship. Everybody likes to sing along, so we try to keep the songs simple and easy to understand. Although we desire to do everything with excellence & at a high level of quality, our motives are not to entertain you but to glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is and always will be the focus of our Praise!

ABOUT US

Our vision is to be the arms of God reaching out to people who do not know Christ personally. We also desire to welcome the children of God, who may have lost their way or who have no church home, to a warm loving setting for which they can come back to God.
