Great Commission Church had been doing corporate worship in someone else’s building since the birth of the GCC. Great Commission Church started in a home, and then moved to Abington Baptist, then on to Roslyn Presbyterian, and then to IBC located in Hatboro, PA. Each move had its own distinct circumstances, from size, to visibility, to cost. However, a move from that facility was always a part of the overall plan because we were tenants not owners. We also believed God was calling us to be missional. When using the term missional it is referring to GCC as a congregation accepting the call as missionaries; the sent agent to continue the work Jesus started. This call mandated that we go outside of the church doors to engage the world for Christ. Our pastors are from Philadelphia, 50% of the congregation had currently resided in Philadelphia, and the majority of those living outside of Philadelphia are former residents.

Therefore, our hearts, like Nehemiah, broke when the report of the cities condition was reported to us. And like Nehemiah, we felt that we could not stay in our comfort zone and allow the city to remain in ruins. After praying and seeking the face of God concerning where He want us to go and we believed that the area He was moving us towards was West Oak Lane.

Therefore we accepted the calling from God to be living sacrifices for these people. "Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to be the arms of God reaching out to people who do not know Christ personally. We also desire to welcome the children of God, who may have lost their way or who have no church home, to a warm loving setting for which they can come back to God.
